Wednesday’s Woman: Blessed Maria Angela Truszkowska

saints_blmaryangelatruszkowska_100814_wikimediaThe Basics: Born May 16, 1825, in Poland; died October 10, 1899, in Poland; beatified April 18, 1993, by John Paul II; feast day, October 10. Woman religious.

The Story: Angela was a natural leader. The order she had founded was tireless in its work with the elderly and the poor. Yet the congregation’s thrice-elected Superior General had a problem, a big problem. Angela, who was only in her mid-forties, was losing her hearing. Other health issues would follow. The natural leader stepped down, and spent most of the next thirty years in private, praying, working in the garden, and sewing.

Blessed Angela’s Wisdom:   “Try to complete the recommendation of the Lord Jesus to pray continually and never lose heart.”

What We Can Learn: Is it time for you to turn over some responsibility at church, at work, or in your family to someone else? Consider how Blessed Angela’s example can help you do that with grace and confidence in the Lord. Never lose heart.
