Ready: February 2018

Note: My word for the year is “Ready.” Each month, I blog briefly about my progress.

January 2018. It was the month that I finally realized I’ve had what was probably a lifelong sugar addiction. I hope it also goes down as the month I broke it once and for all.

My sister and I are doing the Whole 30 diet at our doctor’s recommendation. It’s no dairy, no sugar (artificial or otherwise), no snacking, basically no carbs, limited fruit. The first couple days were hard but then, wham, the benefits began showing. No more creaky joints. No more cravings. I can honestly say I didn’t cheat in those first 31 days, and was rarely hungry. There were other physical benefits too. While I’ve lost a few pounds, I’ve lost a lot more in inches. This is now day 33 and for me, there’s no nutritional or medical reason not to make this a permanent lifestyle.

I lost eighty pounds in my early thirties… and put it all back on. I lost sixty pounds in my late forties… and put it all back on, and then some. This time, I’m ready. Ready to adopt a healthy eating style for life, not for a specific weight target to hit and then revert to old ways.
