On the Nightstand: Stumble by Heather King

The “sell” copy for this collection of Heather King essays begins:

STUMBLE will inspire you to understand that the first step on the path of redemption is a sense of humor.

The second is failure.

Why, for example, every time I go “on retreat,” do I manage to develop at least one huge resentment?

And my oh my, isn’t that the truth?

I’m a big King fan–in particular, Ravished–but I’ve never read her in short form. I’m looking forward to this; I’m pretty good at failure and embracing it, but sense of humor, not so much. I’ve learned a lot else from Heather King; maybe she’ll teach me to be funny too.

What’s on your nightstand?

  1. On my night stand for summer reading? I’m a total sucker for books about ex-pat life in Provence. So I eagerly picked up Elizabeth Bard’s *Picnic in Provence: A Memoir with Recipes* to take to the beach. I inhaled it as if it had been Dolley’s caramel popcorn. Highly recommend it for its vulnerability, humor, and recipe ideas!
