Blessed Olympia Bida: 2014 Daily Lenten Reflections

0401-olhabidaBlessed Olympia Bida was born in Ukraine in 1903 and died on January 28, 1952 in Russia. Her feast day is April 2.

Olympia and another St. Joseph sister got into trouble for facilitating surreptitious religious services and catechization and were exiled to Siberia. She spent more than a year in a prison camp before dying of an illness. Olympia is among the Martyrs Killed Under Communist Regimes in Eastern Europe who were beatified in 2001.

Blessed Olympia Bida said: “Let’s follow him bravely. Not only when all is well, but even 0401-olympiabida-sadwhen times are bitter, let us say: Glory to God in all matters.”

We all have difficult points in our lives, disappointments in our relationships or work or health concerns. When you are tempted today to dwell on or complain about a hurt or misfortune, consider using Olympia’s words instead. Say, “Glory to God in all matters.”
