Blessed Jacinta Marto: 2014 Daily Lenten Reflections

Blessed Jacinta Marto was born on this date in 1910 in Portugal and died shortly before her tenth birthday. She’s best remembered as one 0220-Jacinta Martoof the three children who in 1917 saw the Blessed Virgin at Fatima. The others were her brother Francisco and their cousin Lucia.

It’s said that Jacinta changed greatly through the experience, that she went from being a bubbly, chatty girl to a more introspective child greatly concerned about the need to save sinners. Jacinta died from complications experienced due to an influenza epidemic.

Jacinta tells of this event in the days she was suffering from the illness that would result in her death: “Our Lady came to see us and said that soon she would come and take Francisco to heaven. And she asked me if I still wanted to 0311-jacinta-talkingconvert more sinners. I told her ‘yes.’”

If a child of less than ten can be concerned about the conversion of sinners, can’t we all? Resolve to do something by your actions or your words today that will show a non-believer what the love of Christ looks like.
