2020: Your Words

Congrats to Sister Jane of New Jersey, who won a random drawing for a $20.20 Amazon gift card. Here’s what Sister Jane said about why CONFIDENCE is her word for 2020:

“I opened my reflection book, HE AND I, to the word that Jesus gave Gabrielle for one year, and took that. It’s CONFIDENCE, which is similar to your Trust. I feel that it encourages me to continue placing my confidence that Jesus is working everything for good because I love Him (Rom. 8) even if I cannot see it at the time. For example, I went to pray with Sr. Fran, the last of the Sisters who entered with me in 1959 still living, and hoped Fran might receive some healing. But one hour after she went on hospice, she peacefully died. The Lord is in it, I know.”

And here are some other words for 2020!

  • Empathy: “In dealings with people, I discover it is necessary to be patient with people.  Learning to empathize with what they may be going through or with differences in personalities, empathy helps in friendships and relationships.” (Vera)
  • Ask: “As I craft my new normal after the death of my husband I have learned that asking for help is the greatest sign of strength. Whether I’m asking my friend’s husband for help putting in my new window screens, asking for exact directions, asking for light to enter my soul on a particularly sad day or asking if I can help someone else with their struggles, the word ASK has become a great source of strength for me.” (Patricia)
  • Healing: “I have battled pneumonia since Thanksgiving and am coming back.” (Shirley)
  • Walk: “In 2019, I was suffering from a never-diagnosed affliction that had me using a cane, but in prayer I heard Jesus ask, ‘Do you want to go for a walk with me?’  This September, my partner and I will travel to Spain and walk 300 miles in the footsteps of St. Ignatius—from Loyola to Manresa—in the company of Ignatian Volunteer Corps community members.  Until then, we train:  walking increasing distances and difficulties throughout the coming months.” (Christine)

Thanks to everyone who shared their words… and to those who didn’t, but said they’d pray for me on my journey to TRUST this year!
