Seven years ago, I wrote a page-a-day devotional, Sisterhood of Saints: Daily Guidance and Inspiration. It was a privilege to get to know 366 women saints and blesseds (and research several hundred more) and relate their stories to our lives today. While I was writing it, I had the opportunity to hold a relic of Elizabeth Ann Seton, the first saint born in the United States. “Listen, and you will find your vocation,” she told me. And that’s what I’ve tried to do ever since.
I’ve written some other books in the interim, but always wanted to delve into the stories of the male saints. Franciscan Media, publisher of Sisterhood, agreed, and I’m excited to share that Brotherhood of Saints: Daily Guidance and Inspiration, comes out later this month. It includes 366 male saints, some you know, some you’ll want to get to know… apostles, Doctors (teachers) of the Church, husbands, fathers, hermits, lawyers, doctors, martyrs. They are men from every walk of life who lived their faith in ordinary and extraordinary ways. This book is especially special to me, because it’s dedicated to my uncles John T. and Craig Smith, who influence me in ways they are too humble to realize.
Brotherhood can be ordered at your favorite online or bricks and mortar store. Here are a couple of special options:
- Learn about six of the more obscure saints and what we can learn from them! And–MEG Gilroy, chocolate and wine connoisseur, shares pairings for each. MEG and I had a lot of fun at a similar event for Radical Saints, and are excited to team up again with our friends at One More Page Books and More. The virtual event is Thursday, October 22. You can also order a signed copy of Brotherhood, with a special gift from my friends at Novena Cards. One More Page ships anywhere!
- Franciscan Media is offering a super-special for preorders! Just use this link by October 23 and the code PreBrotherhood25 to get 25% off the list price.
Brotherhood and Sisterhood both make great gifts for All Saints’ Day, Christmas, Confirmation, or any other event. The nice thing is you can start any day of the year… and if you fall behind for any reason, just pick up again on that date. No Catholic guilt allowed!
