Being Christ in Our Lives: Janet Spurr

This has been one long, cold winter for most of us, physically and perhaps spiritually as well. And yet, my friend Janet Spurr is always spurr-2about the beach and joy.

When I met Spurr, she had just arrived in Maui after a 30 or so hour travel odyssey from her home in Massachusetts. Instead of complaining and whining, she was cracking jokes.

I learn from Spurr’s passion and her total presence in the moment, whether she’s promoting her book, Beach Chair Diaries; walking on the beach; working her day job; or sitting quietly and drinking in the Lord, as I once had the privilege of doing with her at St. John’s church across from the White House. Never mind the weather; any moment spent with Spurr brings peace and happiness.

Who reflects Christ to you?

  1. My pastor gave me a book on contemplative prayer that I’m enjoying a lot. Focuses a lot less on me and a lot more on God and his concerns.
