Maria struggled with demonic possession for years… and yet also received the gift of the stigmata and visions of Jesus. People often found the details of her life difficult to accept; at least one priest doubted her explanations of what was happening. She was frequently hospitalized for mental or physical issues. But Maria’s faith in God remained rock-solid, even when she was physically attacked by criminals.
What We Can Learn from Maria: Just because we don’t understand someone’s struggle doesn’t mean it’s not real. Rather than shrugging off people who believe they are the target of spiritual warfare, help them find a priest or spiritual director who may be able to provide assistance.
